Course objectives
The course objective is to provide an introduction to the study of questions of scientific potential, methods and significance of economic theory.
Syllabus
  • Epistemology (induction, deduction, falsification, apriorism, instrumentalism)
  • Social sciences (facts of social sciences, methodological individualism, methodological subjectivism, historicism, constructivism, quantification, modeling, ideal types)
  • Human action (operative theory of knowledge, teleology, expectation, uncertainty, time, rationality, choice, information)
  • Social interactions (mutual influence, equilibrium, game theory, complex systems, institutions, evolution)
  • Sense of economics (aims, use, meaning, economic profession, economics and values, economics and ethics)

Assessment methods
The classwork is organized as an independent analytical work of students exercised on selected philosophico-methodological topic. The introduction to the topics is based on pre-studied reading assignments.
