The prerequisite for active involvement in this course is mastering the language skills practised in the preparatory courses JII/A and JII/B.

Course objectives
Language II/1 extends the knowledge of general language gained in the preparatory courses Language II/A and Language II/B and pays particular attention to the specialized language of economics seen as a basis of successful and effective communication.
In the course students practise their ability to understand specialized texts,
identify and interpret their main ideas and translate them into the mother tongue with the use of a dictionary.
Students learn to role-play conversations in business situations and master basic types of business correspondence.
Knowledge acquired in this course will serve as a basis for the follow-up course in the summer term which is finished by an exam at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction: organization of the course. Summary of Lessons 5 - 8. Numerals, adjectives, participle, pronouns, perfecto compuesto, imperatives. Topic of conversation: Spain and its languages. Business Spanish: business company.
  • 2. L 9: perfecto simple. Topic of conversation: Curriculum vitae.
  • 3. L 9: para + infinitive, expressions varios/varias, otro/otras, unos/unas, ninguno/ninguna, double negation. Topic of conversation: University - study plans, Academic and professional experience.
  • 4. L 9: prepositions. Topic of conversation - work interview.
  • 5. L 10: futuro simple. Topic of conversation - plans for the weekend.
  • 6. L 10: irregular verbs, pasivo reflexivo. Topic of conversation - sports.
  • 7. L 10: numerals, time, conditional sentences. Topic of conversation - plans for the future.
  • 8. Revision. Topic of conversation: Searching for a new job. Searching for an accommodation.
  • 9. L 11: imperfecto. Topic of conversation - means of transport.
  • 10. L 11: imperfecto - continuation. Gerund. Topic of conversation - at the post office.
  • 11. L 11: expressions estar a punto de, estar + gerund, nada/nadie. Topic of conversation - filling in forms, at the office.
  • 12. L 11 - imperfecto, indefinido. Topic of conversation - Regime of the day.
  • 13. Revision of the grammar/ L 9 - 11. Test.

Teaching methods
The course is taught in the form of seminars.
Assessment methods
The course is concluded by a credit test. Students are allowed to sit the credit test if they meet the following requirements:
1. 80% attendance in seminars
2. Active participation - continuous preparation, homework
3. Translation from Spanish into Czech (half a standard page)
A credit test is considered successful if a student reaches at least 60% of points
