- Course objectives
- The subject focuses on theoretical aspects of three most important monetary institutions, i.e. money, banking industry, central banks. The direction is especially the present form of these monetary institutions. However the course is focused on selected historical case studies as well that should help the understanding of the present state and significance of these institutions. The aim of the course is the understanding of the functions of three main monetary institutions stated above. The main topics are 1) nature and functions of money, commodity and credit money, 2) the nature and functions of banks and banking industry, their interrelations and significance for the economy, 3) the role and function of central bank in a monetary system, and some selected aspects of monetary policy.
