Course objectives
Main objective of the course is to explain the basics of the Insurance market theory and related topics and provide practical view in conditions of the Czech and European insurance market.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- understand and explain the basic theory of the insurance market and clarify the fundamentals of the factual and investment Insurance market;
- clarify basic aspects of the insurance market regulation, Insurance market supervision and transformation of the Insurance market within the Czech conditions;
- characterize an insurance market in the Czech Republic and the Single EU insurance market and analyze both of them;
- analyze segments and selected subjects of the Czech insurance market, the current division of the insurance market by commercial insurance companies and indicators evaluating the performance of the market.

  • 4. Basic and additional indicators of level of insurance market
  • 5. Basic aspects of regulation of the Czech insurance market; transformation of the Czech insurance market
  • 6. Insurance market supervision - in general and specifically in the Czech Republic
  • 7. Factual and investment insurance market - in general and specifically in the Czech Republic
  • 8. Analysis of level of insurance market in the Czech Republic I.
  • 9. Analysis of level of insurance market in the Czech Republic II.

  • 12. European insurance market - legislative development
  • 13. Analysis of the European insurance market

Assessment methods
Type of teaching: tutorials
Requirements for admission to the exam:
Submission of seminar papers (referred to as POT) with the assessment passed, otherwise (assessment failed) a student will not be admitted to the exam.
The exam has a written form.
The final mark is made up of the result of an exam test (maximum 10 points), and possibly also of the assessment of the seminar paper (a bonus of up to 0,5 point).
Grading scale:
A: 92 – 100 % (9.2 – 10, resp. 10,5 points),
B: 84 – 91 % (8.4 – 9.1 points),
C: 76 – 83 % (7.6 – 8.3 points),
D: 75 – 68 % (6.8 – 7.5 points),
E: 60 – 67 % (6.0 – 6.7 points),
F: less than 60% (less than 6 points).
Warning: Any copying, recording or leaking tests, use of unauthorized tools, aids and communication devices, or other disruptions of objectivity of exams will be considered non-compliance with the conditions for course completion as well as a severe violation of the study rules. Consequently, the teacher will finish the exam by awarding grade "F" in the Information System, and the Dean will initiate disciplinary proceedings that may result in study termination.
