- Course objectives
- Economic Theories of the 20th century (EKTE) The objective of this course is to give a comprehensive account of the main schools of economic thinking in the 20th century. A grasp of individual topics forms the prerequisite for understanding the importance of individual streams of the economic theory for modern microeconomics and macroeconomics. At the same time, methodological basis of 20th century economics are explained. The subject focuses on defining theoretical sources of 20th century economics, context of the crisis of neo-classicism and the way of overcoming it. Other topics cover the basic coherence of Keynes macroeconomics and the post-war development in keynesianism, development of the liberal economy in the 20th century and its impact on present economics, formation, development and chief contributions of monetarism and new classical macroeconomics. Attention is also paid to alternative streams of economic theory. The last two lectures deal with the Czech economic thinking in the 20th century. Examination form: written and oral.
