- Course objectives
- Main objective of this course is to develop and use basic techniques of macroeconomic analysis (filtration, correlation, regression analysis) for work with empirical data (time series).
The accent is on evaluation and interpretation of the results.
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- make basic transformation of time series (stationarization - differentiation, filtration)
- distinguish various types of shocks in economy
- examine behaviour of variables during business cycle
- routinely use tools of quantitative analysis (e.g. ordinary least square method)
- interpret and evaluate restults of estimation of single-equation models
- compare empirical results with economic theory
- analyze behaviour of small macroeconomic model
- identify sources of economic growth
- understand behaviour of nominal exchange rate - Syllabus
- 1. Introduction into Matlab software
- 2. Nominal and real exchange rate, inflation rate, real interest rate - basic calculations
- 3. Stationarity of time series (filtration, demand and supply shocks)
- 4. Stylized facts of business cycle (correlation)
