- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to introduce harmonization of accounting in small and medium sized entities to students. The course is focused on interpretation of methods used in according with International Financial Reporting Standard for Small and Medium-sized Entities and with Czech legislation.
- Learning outcomes
- After passing this course the students should be capable of characterising methods of harmonization in small and medium sized enterprises, apply the principles of recognition and accessing financial statements.
- Syllabus
- Characteristics of small and medium-sized entities. Czech law.
- Preface to the IFRS for SMEs. Concepts and pervasive principles. Financial statement presentation (statement of financial position, statement of comprehensive income).
- Statement of changes in equity, statement of cash flow. Consolidated and separate financial statements.
- Accounting policies, estimates and errors. Invetories.
- Property, plant and equipment. Leases. Impairment of assets.
- Intangible assets other than goodwill. Business combination and goodwill.
- Provisions, Revenue. Equity. Income tax.
- Borrowing costs. Government grants. Foreign currency translation.
- Financial instruments.
- Transition to the IFRS for SMEs.

- Teaching methods
- The course is taught within two hours of seminars per week. The seminars require an active participation, the emphasis is on self-study. Seminars are aimed at recognition and measurement of assets and liabilities according to IFRS for SMEs.
- Assessment methods
- The course has a form of two seminars per week. It is completed by a written exam which comprises of a theoretical part as well as a practical one. In the course of the semester there are two scheduled in-term tests. The minimum success rate to pass them is 60%. The students are also supposed to deliver a presentation.
