Course objectives
The aim is to prepare the student for the necessary steps in the bachelor thesis. Adoption of principles of professional work, access to the world of professional literature, methods of selecting topics and methods of professional work, work with literature and information sources. They will be acquainted with citation methods and bibliographic references. Basic research strategies, research plans and methods of data collection and analysis.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:

  • to create a structure of thesis
  • to find relevant resources and create a research
  • to determine the research problem, goals, questions and hypotheses
  • to describe the research plan (strategies, methods of data acquisition and processing)
  • specify the sample file and the method of selection
  • specify the research file and the method of selection
  • to analyze and interpret the results
  • Syllabus
    • Topic - Search and Selection, Archive of Final Thesis at MU Brno and UK Prague.
    • Citation standard, creation of bibliographic records, citation managers.
    • Structure and design of the project (research, problem, goal, research questions (hypotheses), methodology, studied subjects / objects, data source, data acquisition method, data analysis, study definition, study limits).
    • Structure of theoretical, theoretical and empirical work. Methods and techniques, tools and variants of research.
    • Methods of data collection (observation, methods, experiment, quaziexperiment).
    • Data Processing Methods - Analysis, Synthesis, Review, Thinking and Logic Methods, Statistics.
    • Basic statistical characteristics - mean, median, standard deviation, frequency, basic graphs - histogram, box graph.

  • Assessment methods
    - written test: 40 questions. There is one point for a correct answer, -0.25 points for an incorrect answer and 0 points for an unanswered question. The threshold to be met is 32 points (80%). It will be possible to get 10 bonus points at the lectures (max. 1 point per lecture in the form of a quiz - the KvIS tool), which will be added to the result of the written test. Rating E: 32 points; D: 33-34 p.; C: 35-36 p.; B: 37-38 p.; A: 39-40+ p.
