- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to make students understand and reflect on the history of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia as an important political actor in Czechoslovakia in the context of the development of the world communist movement. It will seek answers to the exceptional durability and success of Czechoslovak Stalinism (1929–1953) in comparison to other communist parties in the region. Students will learn not only about intra-party developments, but also the socio-economic context in which the Communists operated. Another objective is to familiarize students with different conceptual and methodological approaches to the history of communism, contemporary documents, audiovisual sources and archival sources.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to: - describe the development of the Czechoslovakia and world communism in the years 1921–1968 - explain the specifics of Czechoslovak communism - analyse and interpret specialist literature, audiovisual and written sources - reflect on the issue from different contemporary perspectives - compare the suitability of different concepts and methods of the history of communism
