Course objectives
The aim of the course is to cover the basic trends of the Czech foreign policy from 1989 till present. The main attention is focused on the position of the Czech Republic as a medium state on the European and World political map. Bilateral relations with the neighboring countries in the context of the Central European region will be analyzed in detail, followed by the bilateral relations between the Czech Republic, the US and the Russian federation as well as the participation of the Czech Republic within the NATO and the European Union. At the end of the course, students should be able to have adequate date basis to study the Czech foreign policy. Students should understand priorities and aspirations of the Czech Republic during certain stages from the establishment of the individual state.

The desintegration of the Czechoslovakia and the relations with the Central European neighbours. IV. The Czech-Slovak and the Czech-Polish relations. V. The Czech-German and the Czech-Austrian relations. VI. The Czech Republic and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. VII. The Czech EU membership arrangements. VIII. The Czech EU membership. IX. The Czech-American relations. X. The Czech relations with the Russian federation. XI. The Czech relations with the post-soviet countries. XII. The foreign development cooperation and the human rights issue in the Czech foreign policy. XIII. Graded credit.

Assessment methods
Graded credit is based upon the continuous point evaluation throughout the course, thus it is vital the actively participate on the seminars and pass the in-term and the final test. Only students, who received the graded credit, will be allowed to sit the final examination. The final course evaluation is based not only on the result of the written examination, but also on the number of points gained during the semester.
