Course objectives
The course is conceived as a basic introduction to cognitive psychology. Lectures are focused on the main concepts and theories. Seminars are dedicated to practical examples.

At the end of this course, student should be able:
1. To understand main concepts, concept relations, phenomena, theoretical approaches in the areas of cognitive psychology, mentioned below. To understand and to use precisely the terminology of this part of general psychology.
2. To write a simple research project related to a selected area of cognitive psychology.
3. To generalize from the particular (real life) experiences to expert terms and to name a number of specific examples of each term.

  • a) General psychology - psychology of cognitive processes – framework, approaches to the mystery of mind, basic cognitive categories of human mind, cognition, history of cognitive psychology
  • b) Perception

  • d) Imagery, imaginations, phantasy, creativity
  • e) Mental representation
  • f) Memory
  • g) Learning
  • h) Thinking, reasoning, decision-making, problem-solving, creative problem-solving, metacognition
  • i) Language, role of verbal communication
  • j) The relationship between cognitive processes and emotional experience in the context of personality, cognitive development in the context of personality
