Course objectives
The goal of the course MVZ217 Middle East in International Politics in 20th and 21st Century aims to acquaint students with the key factors that influence the position Middle Eastern region in the system of international relations. During the course, students will devote their attention to the evaluation of the political development of individual regional countries - the emphasis will be given to the positions of these states both in the region and the western world (e.g. on the platforms of UN, EU etc.). At the end of this course, students should be able to analyse the most important trends and issues in the context of contemporary Middle East; and to demonstrate their ability to use historical documents and primary sources.

Teaching methods
Přednášky zahrnují teoretickou přípravu. Seminární práce zlepšují schopnosti studentů analyzovat problematiku postavení regionu Blízkého východu v mezinárodních vztazích a formulaci zahraničních politik jednotlivých států, stejně jako schopnosti používat historické dokumenty a primární zdroje a správně s nimi pracovat. V rámci semináře bude kladen důraz na aktivní participaci studentů.
Assessment methods
The course is finished by an written exam. It requires fulfilling of semester tasks. The final grade will be calculated as a composite evaluation consisting of seminar presence and activity, research paper, map quiz, writing midterm test and final test.
