- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the development of Czech media from the mid-19th century until the end of the First World War. The focus of the subject is mainly on daily political press, especially on party issues. The course concentrates on the problems of the first Czech daily newspapers, which were created in the context of the liberation of political life in the early 1960s (Čas, Hlas, Národní listy), print by the Old Bohemian and Young Bohemian newspapers, the printing of political parties that arose in the process of political differentiation Czech society at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the period of the First World War.
- Learning outcomes
- Students acquire theoretical and factual knowledge that will enable them to understand the development of the media in the historical context and to explain the historical processes that fundamentally influence the role of media in contemporary society. The student will also acquire skills that allow him to analyze the power, political, socio-economic and cultural contexts of contemporary media products.

- Course structure: Week 1: Introduction. 2nd week: Characteristics of the Habsburg constitution. 3rd week: Period of constitutional reforms. Week 4: Czech printed media in 60. 19th century. Week 5: Match on Fundamental Articles and Depression of the 70s. 6th week: Czech printed media in 70. 19th century. Week 7: Era "Tiny Politics". Week 8: Czech printed media in 80. 19th century. Week 9: The process of party-political differentiation at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Week 10: Czech printed media from the early 1990s to 1914. 11th week: Czech printed media from 1914 to 1918. 12th week: The birth of Czech film. 13th week: World War I and Czech media.
