Course objectives
The course aims to introduce the students into the topic of social media, providing them with knowledge about the uses of social media in journalistic profession. The students gain a thorough knowledge of key theoretical topics (SNS as surveillance tools, big data and their use, SNS as part of the debate on the post-truth era, social media and gender and intimacy, shared economy, crisis of privacy and protection of privacy) and, moreover, gain knowledge on the practical uses of social media (content creation, information search, basics in analytics).
Learning outcomes
Students gain theoretical knowledge about analysis of social media. Students gain skills necessary for critical evaluation of information circulated in social media. Students gain basic competences in analysis of social media, their users and content. Students gain knowledge regarding use of social media in journalism and editorial work.
Syllabus
  • Internet of public service, private Internet. Social networking sites as means of surveillance. Big data, big troubles. Social networking sites in so called post-truth era. Social networking sites, geneder and intimacy. Shared economy. Online crime and protection of privacy. Production of attractive content for social media. SNS content search and analysis.
