- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to make students acquainted with essential concepts of psychotic disorders. Both lectures and seminars emphasize practical application – that is social work with psychotic clients. A meeting with a social worker, specialized in working with psychotic clients will be involved within the framework of the course. Particular therapeutic concepts of work with psychotics and chance of a concrete intervention rehearsal will be also presented to students. The conception of psychoses will be presented within a cross-cultural context (Japan, India, USA).

- 1. General introduction: history, what is psychosis, classification according to MKN10 (medical definition of psychotic disorders)
- 2. Life situation of psychotic individual (casuistry, family, leisure time), „A Beautiful Mind“ movie presentation
- 3. A comparison of psychiatric, psychological and social approaches of specialists and their interpretation of an etiology of disorder
- 4. Particular psychological approaches to work with psychotics (therapy)
- 5. Group work with psychotics
- 6. Social constructivism as one of approaches to work with psychotics; prejudices, discrimination
- 7. Crisis intervention
- 8. A comparison of the care in the Czech Republic and abroad (trends, community care)
- 9. A meeting with a social worker (Práh or Eset)
- 10. Positive ways of coping and prevention of mental disorders
- 11. Development of positive potential of people with psychotic disorder
- 12. The role of the social worker, communication with client, family and within an organization

- Students are taught by lectures of 4 different lecturers, they are expected to read recommended literature and be able to give questions.
