Course objectives
Students should be able to understand and analyse political systems of democratic and non-democratic countries.
Syllabus
  • 1. Theory of democracy I. 2. Theory of democracy II. 3. Konsotional democracy, consensual and Westminster model 4. Swiss democracy, parliamentary democracy 5. Presidential and semi-presidential model - USA and France 6. Chancellors model - Germany; West-European parliamentary systems 7. Half-semestral test 8. Post-Communist democracies in the Central Europe 9. Model of the Eastern Europe - Russian Federation 10. Balkan states I. 11. Balkan states II. 12. Teaching methods
The course consists of lectures, reading of the political systems analysis and writing of the seminar paper.
Assessment methods
Seminar paper (maximum 6 point), half-semestral test (maximum 10 points) and written final test (maximum 30 points). Students need at least 28 points (out of maximum 46 points) and at least 16 points for the final test.
