Course objectives
University students need to get (among other skills) also the ability to express themselves and learn to communicate on a professional level. Course Rhetoric allows them to lay the foundation of the technology of spoken language, nonverbal communication and stage behavior. It teaches them to access specifically to different types of texts, develop the ability of improvisation, imagination and fluency of expression. Also, the emphasis is put on the individuality and autonomy of manners.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the course, the basis of spoken language techniques, breathing exercises
  • 2. Technology of spoken language (continuation) - dynamics, intonation, rhythm, pronunciation
  • 3. Nonverbal speech - facial expressions, gestures, spatial imagination, expression by the movement
  • DRAMATIC BACKGROUND
  • 4. Representation of the outside world - the world of natural phenomena, the world of animals, animals versus man
  • 5. Man as an individual - "I" in various stages of development, "I" as a unique creature
  • 6. Man as a social being - communication, relationships, improvisation, human groups (nations, social groups, people in a specific environment ...)
  • 7. Work with dramatic texts, stage movement
  • 8. Introduction to the dramatic work of students of JAMU (video)

  • 9. Work with word (first part)
  • 10. Work with word (second part)
  • 11. Moderation of a program - basic rules of moderation, the specifics of each type of programs according to the target group
  • 12. Work with the microphone - rules for speaking on microphone (first part)

Assessment methods
To get credit, student has to manage a recital of an art text on the microphone and recite and defence a selected topic in front of an audience.
