- Course objectives
- The subject is a follow-up of The Basics of Law. It gives more thorough preview of contemporary state of Czech social law. The course is conducted by the means of lectures and seminars. The lectures offer basic information on course topics. The seminars offer space for discussion and a chance to solve real-life problems in small study groups. A course graduate should have basic knowledge and orientation in the field of social insurance, social support and social assistance. They should know and understand legal situation concerning foreigners and asylum seekers in the Czech republic. As social workers, they are able to reflect clients' citizenship in legal context and be able to independently solve clients' concrete social situations.

- At the end of this course, students should be able:

- Social Security: the concept of welfare state, social rights, basic pillars, financing 2. Sickness Insurance: sickness benefits, benefit for care of a family member, pregnancy and maternity compensation benefit, maternity benefits (eligibility, purpose, height, calculations, presenting a claim, making an application) 3. Retirement Pension: Retirement Pension Act, types of pensions (eligibility, purpose, height, calculations, presenting a claim), increasing of retirement pension, additional retirement insurance 4. Social Support: Social Support Act, types and conditions of the individual benefits, the purpose of benefits, height, calculations, presenting a claim, making an application 5. Social services 6. Social Assistance, Special Privileges Allowed for Disabled and Senior Citizens 7. Subsistence Minimum and Living Wage 7. Family Policy: representation of a child, managing the affairs of a child, making a proposal of limiting and deprivation of parental rights, making a proposal for fixing the height of infant's maintenence, the substitute family care procedure, solving model problem situations in a family 8. Refugees in the Czech Republic: their legal position, conditions for granting a refugee status, claims of a refugee, solving model situations 9. - Teaching methods
- Lectures, seminars, study of legal norms, discussion, practising by the means of solving concrete examples from practice, work in small study groups, homework.
- Assessment methods
- Seminar attendance. Handing-in homework on continuous basis is an exam requirement. Written exam (open and closed questions). To pass the exam, students need to get minimum of 65% points.
