Course objectives
The intent of this course is introduce the students to current demographic process, nwe theory of ageing, the development in social work with the elderly people a providing the social services for this target group in Czech Republic as well as another countries. Within the course are discussed the forms and kinds of the personal social services system and the mix of formal and institutional care of the elderly. Special attention is given to rezidential home and the aspect of care in this institution as well as to the potential of social home care services agency. Furthermore is discussed the possibillity of transformation process of the rezidential homes to other forms of services.
Learning outcomes
After passing the course, student should be able to: - relate the demographical trend of Czech Republic and other development countries; - explain the context of social care and social services for the elderly; - explain the changing demands of providing the social services for this target group; - analyze the specifics of providing the social services for the elderly; - analyse the specifics of diferent types, forms and kinds of personal social services for the elderly; - compare social services providing for the elderly in Czech Republic and other EU countries; - propose reasoned decision about the planning social services for the elderly; - assess the effects of social services providing for the elderly at the local level.

Teaching methods: lectures, reading, class discussion, field trip, individual project.
Assessment methods
Assessment methods: The final written test includes usually 5 overall questions, the rating of each is max 20 points; max rating is 100 and the 60 points are the minimal rating for a completion of this course. The final assessment summarize the test result and the evaluation of the individual project.
