Course objectives
This course is intended as a comprehensive overview of the crisis management in the security sector. Main objective of the course is to explain contemporary conceptualization of crisis management in the science and in the official and legislative context.
Learning outcomes
Students should be able to use scientific knowledge of crisis management in the resolution of security problems. Apllication of Coppola crisis management model to the analysis of particular emergency situation. Knowledge of system and process of crisis management at national (the Czech Republic) and international (NATO, EU) level.

  • 1. Introduction to the crisis management; 2. Basic conceptualization of crisis management; 3. Crisis management within security system of the Czech Republic and related terminology 4. Methods supporting decision making process within crisis management 5. Legal aspect of crisis management and related issues in the Czech Republic 6. Planning for security provision and sustainable development in the Czech Republic 7. Phases of management during crisis situation 8. Integreated Rescue System 9. NATO and EU planning for security provision 10. Psychology in crisis management 11. Crisis management in international context 12. Case study on crisis management

Teaching methods
The course takes the form of lectures. For elaboration of case study is organised seminar.
Assessment methods
Students will receive a final letter grade (A-F) for the semester based on the following components: case study (max. 18 points), written review (max. 12), written exam (max. 30 points). Grading: 56-60: A; 51-55: B; 46-50: C; 41-45: D; 36-40 E; 35-0: F.
