Course objectives
The interactive and motivational course hones participants’ speaking skills and their rhetorical and communication abilities. It also provides a basic grounding in verbal and non-verbal communication, professional performance, public performance, and media performance – the aim is informed orientation in communication ‘grammar’. The complexity of the course is based on the requirements of the application sphere, as elaborated in the market analysis.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to act professionally as a journalist after completing the course, especially communicating with sources and performing in the media.
Syllabus
  • Topics:
  • 1. Introduction, the process of communication in the specific journalistic context
  • 2. Importance of the breathing, body resonates
  • 3. Articulation exercises (articulation, vowels and consonants, voice assimilation, grammar of communication and common mistakes)
  • 4. Intonation, dynamics and reading of news (phrases, tempo etc.)
  • 5. Argumentation, logic of expression (related to the journalistic profession)
  • 6. Contact with respondent, phone call
  • 7. Respondent interview - recording synchron
  • 8. Conduction of an interview
  • 9. Creating stand-up
  • 10. Live I
  • 11. Live II
  • 12. Topic presentation to the "editor" - preparation of a news topic and its submission for recording it
  • 13. Spare lecture (guest participation/possibility of revisions)

Assessment methods
The conditions for successful completion of the course are a student’s active participation (long-term absence is not allowed) and successful completion (in classes or in a form of homework) of four mandatory activities:
1. introduce yourselves (no points for this)
2. interview (short, long or on the phone)
3. stand-up
4. reporting live
5. presentation of journalistic topic for editor's consideration
