- Course objectives
- The course objective is to learn sociological interpretation of cultural practices, institutions and discourses characteristic for (late) modernity. Students will familiarize themselves with key concepts and theoretical perspectives in the sociology of culture. At the end of the course the students will work on a group project to analyze a selected cultural phenomenon (theatre play, pop cultural controversy, fairytale, documentary, etc.).
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students should be able to
understand and explain key concepts and theoretical perspectives in the sociology of culture and cultural sociology,
work with conceptual tools in their own empirical research in the field of cultural sociology
develop sociological interpretations of practices, institutions, and discourses that generate intersubjective meanings. - Syllabus
