The prerequisite for German for Lawyers is the language competence at the intermediate level.

Course objectives
The course develops language skills, especially reading comprehension and writing. The students are expected to reach the language competence of B1 level applied to specific and academic language. At the end of this course students will be able to understand simple texts on specific topics, deduce the meanings of unknown words from a context and define key legal terms
Syllabus
  • 1. Lawyers at work, curriculum vitae, job interview 2. Basic legal terms - what is law, introduction to legal German 3. Sources of law - common law systems, continental systems 4. Civil and public law 5. Fundamental rights - constitutional and human rights 6. Civil law - types of contracts 7. Civil law - law of property 8. Procedural law - criminal proceedings 9. Administrative proceedings, remedial measures 10.Correspondence with citizens and institutions, formal letters

Teaching methods
The course is taught on the basis of an e-learning program with an introductory seminar.
Assessment methods
The course is ended by a colloquium in the form of a test - 30 multiple-choice questions.The required success rate of tests is 70%.
