fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
Course objectives
At the end of the course students have knowledge that is necessary for understanding of chemical principles applied in further study subjects, especially in biochemistry.He/she understand solution properties and basic physico-chemical laws. Describes the properties of elements and inorganic compounds important for medicine, nutrition and toxicology. Discuses the structure of compounds and reactions taking part in metabolism and organic compounds that have importance in toxicology.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
- understand basics of general, inorganic and organic chemistry to the extent necessary for the further study of biochemistry.
- apply general physicochemical laws to processes in living organisms.
- describe the chemical properties of the most important biogenic elements and essential compounds of importance in medicine, nutrition and toxicology.
- describe and discuss the properties and reactions of organic and bioorganic compounds important for the understanding of biochemical processes

Literature
Teaching methods
Lectures.
Assessment methods
Written examination consisting of two parts.
  • The first part is solved electronically: calculations of concentration, pH, osmotic pressure / osmolarity, simple questions requiring one-word answers or selection from the offered answers, recognition / naming of the mentioned compounds.
  • The second part is written: active drawing of structural formulas and equations, active answers to three thematic areas (general and inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, static biochemistry). The questions concern the relevant chemical principles and their understanding.
  • Language of instruction
    Czech
Further comments (probably available only in Czech)
