Course objectives
Medical immunology is one of the fields unifying modern medicine. This ability follows from the characteristic diffuseness of the immune system, which, by its operating units and their agents, supervises the construction of the whole organism, eliminates the foreing, protects the own, and thus takes care of the structural integrity of cells, tissues, and organs. Also the fact that the subject of immunology has its own, highly specific and sensitive methods that are able to uncover a variety of antigens and to assess the physiological processes in the organism contributes to interdisciplinary nature of immunology. Immunology, as one of the fundamental physiological and pathogenic principles should therefore cover all the medical fields. The inclusion of the "Trends in medical immunology" to the common programme of doctoral studies at the Faculty of medicine is a reflection of this concept of immunology. The selection of topics is driven by the desire to draw attention to those areas of immunology that has remarkably changed and can be appealing both for theoretical scientists and for clinicians.
