- Syllabus
- 1st week: Introduction. Fundaments of the histological technique - explanation and film. Demonstration of the histological slides colored by various techniques: Hematoxylin-eosine /HE/ (hepar), Hematoxylin-eosine-saffron /HES/ (esophagus), Azan (prostate), impregnation (cerebellum).
- 2nd week: Tissue processing for the electron microscopy - explanation and film. Cytology: Animal cells in the light microscope - demonstration by video. Ultrastructure of the cell I - the cell nucleus.
- 3rd week: Ultrastructure of the cell II - Cell organelles (mitochondria, the Golgi apparatus, the endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, lysosomes, peroxisomes, and centriol).
- 4th: Ultrastructure of the cell III - Cell inclusions. The arrangement of cell surfaces: apical, lateral, and basal ones. Intercellular junctions: adhering, occluding, and communicating ones. Repetition I: Histological technique and ultrastructure of the cell (a test).
- 5th week: Blood cells: preparation of blood smears and their staining. Cytology of formed elements of blood. Differential white cell count. Evaluation of abnormities. Slides: Smear of peripheral blood stained by Pappenheim's method.
- 6th week: Hematopoiesis: microscopic structure of the bone marrow; erythropoiesis, granulopoiesis and development of thrombocytes. Development of lymphocytes and monocytes. Slides: Smear of bone marrow stained by Pappenheim's method.
- 7th week: General histology: Use of the light microscope, common faults in microscopy. Connective tissue proper - an overview. Slides: funiculus umbilicalis, oesophagus, posterior segment of the eye, lien, aorta.
- 8th week: Supporting tissues: cartilage and bone. Histogenesis of the bone tissue (ossification). Slides: trachea, auricula, elastic cartilage, lamellar bone, chondrogenic ossification. Repetition II: Blood and development of blood cells, connective and supporting tissues, and early human development (a test).
