- Course objectives
- The main objective is to discuss novel concepts in CANCER BIOLOGY (approx. 2 days), BASIC MOLECULAR MECHANISMS IN THE REGULATION OF HEART BIOLOGY and VISION (approx. half day), AND REGENERATIVE MEDICINE (approx. half day). The students will present and discuss selected articles relevant for the topic. The course will be thought by several experts in the field and recent high-profile articles and discoveries will be discussed: - orientation in the most recent advances in the pathogenesis and targeted therapy in cancer, focus on selecting therapy based on molecular aberrations, novel design of clinical trials (basket/umbrella trials, n=1 trials) - modern technics affecting the study and therapy in oncology, especially Crispr and Next-generation sequencing (NGS), single cell analysis - novel concepts in immunotherapy such as CAR-T cell and check-point inhibitors, and their position in oncology - role of tumor microenvironment on the progression and therapy of diseases - regenerative medicine of human heart and vision - neurodegenerative disease biology, and possibilities of studies with neuronal precursors derived from embryonic stem cells, preparation of mini-brains
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be exposed to the recent advances in the field of cancer biology including methodological approaches, novel concepts in the biology of heart and vision, and also regenerative medicine. They will understand the opened questions in the field, and the further directions with implications for therapy of patients. They will to learn and discuss how molecular biology contributes to disease treatment and regenerative medicine. They will have in-depth discussion with experts in the field.
