- Course objectives
- Gaining knowledge of dialectal diversification of the Czech language, acquaintance with tasks of the contemporary Czech dialectology and with methods of dialectological work, verification of the knowledge gained during field research.
- Learning outcomes
- After finishing the course, the student will: - have overall knowledge of the system dialectical stratification of Czech language, language geography, methods and objectives of the Czech Linguistic Atlas; - be able to work with dialect material.
- Syllabus
- 1. Delimitation of basic terms (stratification of the national language, territorial dialect, interdialect, common speech, wave theory, geolinguistics, isogloss) 2. Acquaintance with the dialectal stratification of the Czech language 3. Identification of characteristic features of individual dialects and their diachronic explanation 4. Developmental trends of common speech 5. Traditions and contemporary tasks of the Czech dialectology, basic methods of dialectological work 6. Acquaintance with the Czech Linguistic Atlas 7. Verification of the gained knowledge while processing the results of own field research
