- Course objectives
- This first theoretical linguistic input deals with linguistics as a part of philology and social sciences. It presents the history of linguistic research and attempts to describe language as an instrument of human communication (from the ancient Greek to structuralism and transfomational generative grammar), traditional linguistic disciplines (phonology, morphology, syntax, lexicology, linguistic of discourse) and the latest methodology of linguistic research: the corpus linguistics.
At the end of the course, the students know about the principles of German studies, what is the subject of linguistics, they can explain the difference between mono-lingual and contrastive studies and they can use and explain the basic linguistic terminology in both Czech and German.
