- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to interpret main problems of political theories from ancient Greece to the 19th century.
- Syllabus
- Democracy in Athens. Plato and Aristotle. Roman republic. Political doctrines in Middle Ages. The man, the politics and the ethics in the work of Machiavelli. Reform programmes and Utopia. Theory of natural laws of Hobbes and Locke. Social contract of Rousseau. Enlightement. French revolution in the history of political theories (Burke). American revolution and democracy in the works of de Tocqueville. The man, the country and the society in German philosophy (Kant, Hegel, Fichte). Sociology and psychology in political theories of 19th century - Comte, le Bon. Theory of elites. The society and the the state in works of Marx and Engels. Russian political thinking before the end of 19th century. Anarchism. Czech political thinking.
