- Course objectives
- Reading primary works of Russian literature is necessary not only for teaching literary subjects, but also represents an indispensable foundation for contextual connection of understanding of Russian history, culture, cultural studies, etc. List of literary works for home-reading covers various genres, styles and currents; especially writers who belong to the world-famous classics. The seminar is based on a controlled discussions that take place on a given topic. Students read separately given literary works, at the seminar they consult their questions, concerns, analysis and interpretations. At the end of the course students gain the habit of reading in Russian; understand the style of a particular author; interpret specific literary work; develop their critical thinking not only about literature; they develop critical writing in Russian; understand the specific manifestations of various currents in Russian literature.

- Teaching methods
- Reading obligatory and recommended literature. Students read independently selected items of literary works on the basis of agreement with teacher. Students do continuously their own analysis, if it is necessary, they will consult interpretive ambiguities with teacher.
- Assessment methods
- Colloquium. At the end of the semester students submit their analysis of required literary works, including handwritten notes and comments.
