Course objectives
The course 'Practical language' is focused on the development of real-life communicative skills at advanced level by means of creative grammar work, personalized speaking tasks, lexis presented in context and realistic listening and reading. The main aim is to promote learning and achieve progress by focusing on personal engagement using English.
Syllabus
  • The course is based on 'New English File Advanced' coursebook. Attention will be paid to reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Additional work (grammar, listening, vocabulary work) will be incorporated where appropriate according to the students' needs. Topics discussed: Future and technology, Law and Crime, Challenges and Achievements. Other materials (for homework and coursework) are available from Moodlinka.

Teaching methods
The classes will include class discussions, pair-work, group-work, giving and listening to presentations as well as listening to recordings and video clips. Regular homework will be given.
Assessment methods
Requirements: attendance (at least 80%, other cases will be dealt with individually); active participation; all assigned homework (oral as well as written); written exam and oral interviews in pairs During the whole semester students are encouraged to consider whether they could use or adapt the activities for their own teaching.
