Course objectives
To improve students' presentation and discussion skills;
to encourage learners to evaluate their own performance;
to engage in self-monitoring and peer-monitoring as means of improving speaking performance.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students will be able: to use information gathered from different sources to prepare a presentation;
to critically assess their and their peers´ language performance;
to make presentations in academic settings
Syllabus
  • 1 Structuring the presentation.
  • 2 Getting the attention of the audience.
  • 3 Structuring the talk.
  • 4 Summarising and ending talk. Procedural vocabulary.
  • 5 Expressing a point of view. Reporting, presenting contrasting or contradictory ideas.

Teaching methods
Videos followed by online discussions about features of spoken English, online homework, peer reviews.
Assessment methods
3 speaking assignments (short introduction of the students themselves - about 1 min, longer introduction about 3 mins) – peer reviewed; 1 final assignment – evaluated by the moderator; 4 comments/peer reviews of other students´ performances; studying recordings and detecting certain features (according to the task)
