Course objectives
The main objective of the course is a detailled information about pedagogy of visually impaired. At the end of the course, students should understand and use data about: Categories of people with visual impairment, occurrence and causes, children with multiple handicap, deaf-blind children, peculiarities of psychical process by visually impaired, system of schools for visually impaired, counselling, special educational centres, technical aids, visual stimulation, mobility, quality of life in visually impaired.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- Identify and summarize important areas of influence of visual impairment on the personality and psychomotor development of the child;
- Identify and describe possibilities of counseling for people with a VI focusing on age;
- describe the basic recommendations for the education of pupils with visual impairment by age and degree of disability;
- Understand the use of basic special tools for the visually impaired in the field of education and in everyday life
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to education of visually impaired. The target group of people with visual impairment. The impact of visual impairment on an individual's personality (perception, thinking, attention, behavior, speech).
  • 2. Physiology of the vision process. Development of visual perception. Psychomotor development of a visually impaired child.
  • 3. Visual defects, types of visual defects, manifestations in everyday life. Examination of vision and visual functions in special pedagogical diagnostics.
  • 4. Early intervention - the theoretical basis, forms and services, clientele. Promoting visual perception in early and preschool children.
  • 5. Child with visual impairment (VI) in school age. Specifics of the educational process in the context of the special needs of this target group.
  • 6. Special aids for people with visual impairment and work with them. Use of computer technology in the education of pupils with visual impairment.
  • 7. Opportunities for education of pupils with visual impairments in the Czech Republic. Special tools.
  • 8. Communication of Persons with VI - Braille teaching and writing. Access to information.
  • 9. Counseling and Intervention: Providers and Services
  • 10. Mobility of people with visual impairment.
  • 11. Child with multiple disability. Deaf Blindess - Specifics of communication and education of deafblinds.
  • 12. Professional training of people with visual impairment. Free time activities of blind and partially sighted people.
