Course objectives

This course aims to introduce students to selected advanced parts of discrete mathematics.

Learning outcomes

Students will be aware of topics in advanced topics in discrete mathematics, especially combinatorics.

Syllabus

1. Number of set partitions. Bell and Stirling numbers. 2. Partitions and compositions of natural numbers. 3. Pidgeonholes combinatorics. 4. Block schemes. 5. Magic squares. 6. Latin squares. 7. Finite planes.

Theoretical lectures. If less then five people enroll in the subject, the teaching will be conducted on an individual basis.

Assessment methods

Credit on the basis of a written test. Minimum for passing the written test is 60 per cent.
