Course objectives
The lecture is divided in three time sections the literature until 1945, postwar literature, current literature. In each section, the literary development is studied in the association with the cultural, political and social development. A special emphasis is put on literary phenomena which were repeated in more literary epochs (war, totality regimes, holocaust, migration, etc.)
Learning outcomes
The students will be able to discuss the three time sections, the literature until 1945, postwar literature, current literature and they will be able to explain the literary development in the association with the cultural, political and social development and understand the literary phenomena which were repeated in more literary epochs (war, totality regimes, holocaust, migration, etc.)
Syllabus
  • Modern Breakthrough, The age of the turn of the century, modern art, predecessors of expressionism. Inter-war literature, Neue Sachlichkeit. Literature from 1933 to 1945 (NS, Exil, Innere Emigration) The literature after 1945, the literature of 1950s, social situation, development trends and conflicts of 1960s to1980s, literature from 1989 to the present time.
