- Course objectives
- The intent of this subject is a preliminary of theoretic and historic entrance into aesthetic problematics as science field and of axiology in art works, especially in music.
The aim of the seminar is intensifying acquired knowledge of the students and helping them an understanding internal relatinships in historical development of aesthetics.
At the end of the course students should be able to think in aesthetic categories and concepts. - Learning outcomes

At the end of this course the student will be able to understand the basic characteristics of the subject of theory of art and aesthetics, their specifics and interconnection of both disciplines, axiological relations, the theoretical reflection of art. - Syllabus
- Syllabus of lectures:
- Definition and subject of aesthetics.
- Aspects of understanding of concepts of beauty and its functioning as an evaluation criterion in art.
- Overview of the development of aesthetics with regard to music: ancient medieval aesthetics, medieval, Renaissance, Classicism, German classical aesthetics, Post-Kant aesthetics, aesthetics of the 19th century.
- The basic trends in aesthetics of the 20th century.
- Syllabus of seminar:
- The seminar is focused on analyses of selected essential theoretical works of the discipline in historical contexts (Plato, Aristotle, Plotinos, Augustine, Aquinas T., L. da Vinci, Dürer, Kant, encyclopaedists, Hutcheson, Hogarth, Goethe, Schiller, Hegel, Schopenhauer, Hanslick, Hostinský, F. Busoni, A. Schoenberg, Paul Hindemith, J. Cage, etc.).

- Assessment methods
- As a requirement to oral exam students prepare a seminar paper on an agreed topic (processing of selected problem from the development phase of aesthetics, the issue of beauty in art; the relation between art and kitsch) in the range of 5-8 pages, which submit through IS, present a paper of the content based on the aesthetic theoretical study (selection from Plato to the present). The oral exam is based on the sphere of lectures and recommended study literature.
