Course objectives
The intent of this subject is a preliminary of theoretic and historic entrance into aesthetic problematics as science field and of axiology in art works, especially in music.
At the end of the course students should be able to think in aesthetic categories and concepts.
Syllabus
  • Definition and subject of aesthetics.
  • Aspects of understanding of concepts of beauty and its functioning as an evaluation criterion in art.
  • Overview of the development of aesthetics with regard to music: ancient medieval aesthetics, medieval, Renaissance, Classicism, German classical aesthetics, Post-Kant aesthetics, aesthetics of the 19th century.
  • The basic trends in aesthetics of the 20th century.

Assessment methods
Oral exam from the range of the papers and the recommended study literature. Requirements: seminar essay(5-8 pages) on negotiated topic.
