- The course Cross-cultural psychology systematizes psychological findings considering influence of various social backgrounds on an individual, his development and self-fulfilment in the society. It directly interconnects psychology and social education and points out determination of human psyche in the context of various socio-cultural environment and possible ways to overcome this determination. Knowledge of other psychological disciplines (general psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology) is supposed.

- • use basic terms of cross-cultural psychology • understand the influence of social background on shaping of human psyche • consider and critically evaluate the diagnosis results (especially the test ones) in relation to client’s cultural origin • suggest possible interventions to understand different cultures successfully

- • What cross-culture psychology deals with – basic discipline definition • Relation between social and cross-cultural psychology • Basic terms of cross-cultural psychology – culture, acculturation, accommodation, assimilation, amalgamation, cultural relativism, cultural egocentrism • process and methods of examining cultural differences • Cross-cultural differences among cultures • Cross-cultural differences in perception • Holistic and analytic cognitive style • Cross-cultural differences in thought • Intelligence and its measurement in the context of various cultural backgrounds • Emotion in cross-cultural context • Issue of testing various psychic qualities throughout cultures • Differences of social norms and values • Cross-cultural communication • Saphir Whorf hypothesis • Cross-cultural differences in traffic behavior • Psychological characteristics of East-Asian cultures • Indigenous psychologies, Chinese and Korean indigenous psychology
