- Course objectives
- After completion of this course the student will be able to define the specifics of care for hearing-impaired from birth to end of life. Will be able to focus on possibilities of diagnostics of hearing loss. will be able to give details of typical abnormalities in language development of hearing-impaired; will be able to substantiate difficulties in reading comprehension for hearing impaired and to know specifics of writing skills for hearing-impaired; will focus on possibilities of compensation for hearing loss and to give details of hearing aids used by hearing impaired. The Student will be able to characterize possibilities and course of early intervention for hearing-impaired; will be able to describe structure of comprehensive care for hearing-impaired; educational system for hearing impaired; possibilities of careers; will be acquainted with the various visual-motor communication systems; will acquire knowledge of possibility of interpreting to the hearing impaired and will be able to describe the way of care, communication options for people with dual sensory disabilities.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to: - to focus on the possibilities of providing care for the deaf - to know the classification of auditory defects and the possibilities of their compensation - to identify the basic differences in the language development of the deaf - describe the difference between spoken and sign languages, orientate themselves in the visually-motor communication systems of the deaf - design appropriate diagnostic methods and intervention procedures leading to optimal care for the deaf
- Syllabus
- Organization helping people with hearing impairment, hearing disorders, classification, prevention, individual speciality, history of care of people with hearing impairment, psychological peculiarities of people with hearing disabilities, principles and work methods, technical aids, development of vocabulary, development of reading skills, lipreading, finger spelling, conditions and acoustic aspects of speech, modulation factors, reeducation of hearing and speech of children and adults with hearing disorders, instruments and aid, various ways of commmunication, sign language, interpreting, total communication, bilingual methods, specifics of work with people with hearing impairment and deaf people, early intervention, educational proces of hearing impaired children, condition of integration, employ of hearing impaired, special care of deafblind people.
