- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should have learned a wide variety of songs which can be used in their future teaching careers. They should be aware of different ways of presenting songs with their students and should be able to make reasoned decisions about the appropriacy of different songs for different age groups and levels.
- Learning outcomes
- By the end of the course, the student will: learn a large number of songs useful for teaching English to children and adults. create a portfolio of songs and reflections on them which can be used in their future teaching visit a school and learn how to put on a workshop for children be aware of the advantages of using songs in the classroom and how to exploit them

- Teaching methods
- There will be class discussion and most of the class will be taken up with singing songs. Studentw will be encouraged to look up their own songs for homework and to bring them to class, as well as bringing a musical instrument if possible. Homework will also consist of filling in the portfolio during the whole semester. This should be a reflection on what the students have learnt.
- Assessment methods
- To pass the course you need to fulfill the following requirements with 70 % overall. You must attend 80% of the classes. 15% introduce a new song for children in class (you must have a copy of the song on a memory stick or CD - please don't rely on youtube. You must also provide the lyrics on an A5 piece of paper and the guitar chords on another piece of paper.) 15% choose one song and create a lesson plan around it - think about intended audience, timing, activities to do with the song (gap-fill is one idea but certainly not the only one!), and hand it in with the portfolio. It does not have to be for children. 1-2 pages 15% attendance and active participation including attending the school visit 55% creating a portfolio based on the course
