- JVp011 English for Teachers - A
A pass in SZ7BP_1AB1/JVp011 – English for teachers – A. (Úspěšně absolvovaný předmět SZ7BP_1AB1/JVp011 – Angličtina pro pedagogy – A.) The course is designed for students who are at least at the A2+ level of English and who can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered at work, school, leisure, etc. They can also produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest, and can read texts and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to help students achieve B1 level knowledge of English by improving all language skills (listening, reading, speaking, writing) and systems of the language (grammar and vocabulary) through work with materials and participation in activities related to selected topics in education. The course also aims at developing the students' learner autonomy, language learning skills and general learning skills such as reflection and feedback by engaging them in regular practical activities outside the classroom.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the students will:
be able to comprehend texts, audio recordings, and videos on selected topics in education (such as teaching methods & strategies, alternative schooling and teaching students with special needs) at B1 of the CEFR and produce a short summary (oral or written) of the materials;
be able to produce a short oral or written explanation of the concepts covered in the syllabus;
be able to participate in a conversation with their classmates on the aforementioned topics;
be able to express their opinions, agree and disagree in a polite manner;
have a good command of the following grammatical structures: present and past simple & continuous tenses, expressing future, present perfect simple & continuous, reported speech, relative clauses, pronouns and adverbs, selected verb patterns, first and second conditionals at B1 level of CEFR;
be able to use a selected specialist vocabulary related to the topics covered in the syllabus;
have a better awareness of language learning skills with emphasis on fostering learner autonomy;
be able to select relevant specialist vocabulary and learn it effectively;
have understood the importance of reflection in learning and improved their reflective skills through consistent writing of a learning log;
have understood the importance and basic principles of providing and receiving feedback on learning. - Syllabus

- Continuous assessment (70%):

Oral exam (30%):
reflecion on learning + discussion on a selected topic in education
In order to pass the course successfully, the student needs to pass the continuous assessment and the final exam. The student needs to reach a total of 65 % (45.5 points) and over and they can decide which tasks they choose to do so to be able to sit for the final exam.
The oral exam consists of two parts - part one is a reflective discussion over the student’s learning log, the second part is a pair discussion of a topic (assigned from a range of topics covering both English for Teachers A & English for Teachers B).
The student needs to score a total of 65 % (19 points) at the oral exam in order to pass it. The final grade is calculated from the maximum of 100 points. - Language of instruction
