In the compulsorily optional English for Special Educators B, the students will continue to develop their language and academic skills in English on the B1 level. The English for Special Educators B course can be attended only by students who successfully completed the English for Special Educators A course. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- The aim of the course English for Special Educators B is to develop harmoniously students’ language and professional skills through a series of tasks to be completed throughout the semester. The tasks are set at the B1 level (CEFR) and target the following areas: - Use of English - Awareness of the language-learning process - Presenting - Reading and spoken mediation - Listening and opinion writing - Specialist vocabulary and collocations.
- Learning outcomes
- By the end of the course, students will be able to: - Show good command of selected grammatical structures and vocabulary at the B1 level of the CEFR. - Reflect on their language learning in terms of goals, progress, methods, and strategies. - Prepare and deliver a professional presentation. - Understand and explain a text from their field of study. - Understand and critically evaluate a recording on an issue from their field of studies. - Demonstrate good command of specialist vocabulary. - Recognize and make use of collocations. Successfully participate in a spoken interaction dealing with relevant special needs education issues.

- SP4BP_2AB1 English for Special Educators B • Topics: Collocations and vocabulary learning, Behavioral disorders, Speech and language disorders, Deafness and prejudice, (Web) accessibility not only for the visually impaired, Neurodevelopmental disorders, Special needs education in other countries (optional) Skills: how to reflect, how to organize and deliver a professional presentation, how to recognize and use collocations, how to read a professional text, how to mediate, how to express your opinion, and how to participate in a professional discussion.

- Teaching methods
- 100-minute seminars developing the skills needed to complete the course tasks. Pair and group work, pair/group/class discussions, grammar quizzes, vocabulary practice.
- Assessment methods
- During the semester (80 points): 1) Grammar quizzes in class. 2) Written reflections on 3 of the tasks. 3) Presentation and peer feedback. 4) Article mediation (in class). 5) Discussion forum post and response. 6) Vocabulary collection. Students need to receive at least 52 points (=65%) altogether from the tasks they complete to be allowed to take the oral exam. Final oral exam in the exam period (20 points): 1) Reflection on the language-learning progress 2) Discussion of a special needs issue. Students need to get at least 13 points (=65%) to pass the exam.
