- Course objectives
- To improve students' presentation and discussion skills;
to encourage learners to evaluate their own performance;
to engage in self-monitoring and peer-monitoring and provide the students with constructive feedback;
to master procedural vocabulary actively
to learn to defend one's opinion or present contradictory or controversial opinions. - Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the students will be able:
to use information gathered from different sources to prepare a presentation;
to critically assess their and their peers´ language performance;
to make presentations in academic settings. - Syllabus
- 1 Analysis of two videos, discussion in the forum.
- 2 Videorecording - self-presentation.
- 3 Critical evaluation of other students' presentations in the discussion forum.
- 4 Study of materials - preparation for detailed introduction of the students and their study fields.
- 5 Introduction / videorecording - the students will introduce themselves as of students of Masaryk University; description of their study field.
- 6 Critical evaluation of other students' presentations in the discussion forum.
- 7 Structuring the presentation - studying materials.
- 8 Presentation of own's opinions - useful phrases.
- 9 Presentation of one's opinion on controversial topic.
- 10 Preparation for the final recording; summary of the basic procedures.
- 11 Presentation of one's opinion of controversial topic. Stating the arguments for and against - videorecording.

- Teaching methods
- Videos followed by online discussions about features of spoken English, online homework, peer reviews.
- Assessment methods
- 3 speaking assignments (short introduction of the students themselves - about 1 min, longer introduction about 3 mins) – peer reviewed; 1 final assignment – evaluated by the moderator; 4 comments/peer reviews of other students´ performances; studying recordings and detecting certain features (according to the task)
