- Course objectives
- To allow students to improve their skills in phonemic transcription along with enhancing their listening skills by means of ear-training; the focus of the lessons will be on the transcription of a range of texts (written, spoken, dictated) as well as reading from transcription, which will lead to the overall improvement of the students' pronunciation. In addition, the students (teachers-to-be) will become more confident in the use of the phonemic chart and will thus be able to implement it in their own teaching.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to:
- transcribe English texts even at an advanced level;
- transcribe texts from dictation;
- transcribe authentic recorded texts;
- read from transcription fluently;
- analyze the spoken word with more precision. - Syllabus
- The following areas will be covered:
- - comparison of various notation systems of phonemic transcription;
- - applying features of connected speech (weak forms, assimilation, elision, linking) to regular transcription;
- - reading transcribed texts of various genres;
- - creating individual sentences and nonsense words to be dictated;
- - listening to authentic audio(visual) material and transcribing it.

- - active participation, home study
- preparing either 1 sentence or 2 nonsense words to be dictated

Information on the extent and intensity of the course: 1 hodina. - Teacher's information
- Upon successful completion of the course, you will earn 2 ECTS credits. Each ECTS credit represents 25 to 30 hours/semester of work (both in class and self-study). Full-time students are expected to spend approx. 12 hours in class, while the remaining hours are allocated for self-study.
