Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide a basic literary-historical overview of world literature for children and youth, its developmental tendencies and works that have become part of an intergenerational literary legacy.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to orient himself/herself in the literary-historical development of world literature for youth; to realize the developmental connections with Czech literature; to perceive and interpret valuable works of world literature for youth in the contemporary and contemporary context.
Syllabus
  • 1. The concept of world literature for young people, literary prizes, institutions and organisations involved in the promotion of children's reading and children's literature in a transnational context. 2.-4. The development of the fairy tale from the 17th century to the present with examples of selected authors and works. 5.-7. Changes in the concept of childhood and their reflection in literature from the 19th century to the present. 8. -10. Current themes and genre hybridization in contemporary young adult literature.

Teaching methods
Teaching takes the form of lectures combining overview studies with interpretive analyses of selected examples, during which students are involved in discussion. Students are expected to supplement the interpretations with their own individual readings.
Assessment methods
Credit is awarded for a written thesis (3 to 5 pages) reflecting on one of the selected topics related to world literature for youth. Topics will be specified at the beginning of the semester. The paper is assessed with 30 points for relevance of content, stylistic and linguistic aspects; a minimum of 20 points is required for credit.Výuka
