- Prerequisites
- This subject does not require any special prerequisites since it picks up on the secondary school knowledge of mathematics.
- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Mathematics for Education (programme PdF, B-MA3S) (2)
- Mathematics for Education (programme PdF, B-SPE)
- Lower Secondary School Teacher Training in Mathematics (programme PdF, N-MA2) (4)
- Lower Secondary School Teacher Training in Mathematics (programme PdF, N-TV)

- Course objectives
- To make the students familiar with physical motivations of a number of mathematical concepts and methods; ii) to inspire future secondary school teachers of mathematics to motivate their students for mathematical studies, especially students at a grammar school; iii) to present some parts of mathematical analysis set within the framework of specific physical concepts and problems.
- Learning outcomes
- After a successful completion of the course, the students will be able to a) explain the physical meaning of differentiation and definite integration, understand the importance of goniometric functions for the description of real funkctions; b) see the importance of vectors and gonometric functions for the description of the position and movement of a solid; c) use physical and mathematical apparatus for the description of the movement of a solid in space (parabolic movement). d) describe moevement of a solid along a circle. e) work with Newton's laws on movement of solids, describe movement of such solids and forces involved.
- Syllabus
- The syllabus is built on physical concepts:
- 1-2) physical concepts: movement along a straight line, average speed, immediate speed, acceleration; mathematical notions: goniometric functions of an acute angle, equation of a straight line, derivative of a function;
- 3-4) physical concepts: scalar and vector variables, movement of a solid in space, work carried out in the movement of a solid along a straight line, torque; mathmetical concepts: degrees and arc length for description of angles, goniometric functions, vectors, vector coordinates, scalar and vector product;
- 5-6) physical concepts: movement in a plane or in space, average and immediate speed, parabolic movement, movement along a circle; mathematical concepts: parametric and general form of a straight line in a plane; quadratic function, its graph and properties; computation of some limits (also using l'Hospital's rule);
- 7-8) physical concepts:Newton's laws on force effects, pressure force, gravity force, resistance force, frictional force.
- 9-10) Frictional force in movement along a straight line or along a circle.
