Course objectives
The students develop their presentation skills based on theoretical knowledge as well as their own preparations and realizations of several presentations. The use of PowerPoint is NOT addressed in the course! The focus is on the development of one's own communicative competence and rhetoric, the training of numerous presentation techniques as well as the reduction of fear and nervousness when presenting in front of an audience.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the students have theoretical knowledge about a presentation as one of the types of personal speeches, they are able to apply this knowledge in the preparation of a presentation, they have their own strategies for the successful presentation delivery and they can minimalize nervousness and fear of speaking in the public.

  • Introduction to the problem (What or how to present?) Structure of the presentation Visual means Linguistic means Nonverbal means Strategies to reduce anxiety and nervousness Feedback (How to formulate feedback and how to accept it? accept it?) Throughout, students prepare and deliver mini-presentations in small groups, partner feedback.

Credit requirements: attendance and active participation in seminars; continuous fulfilling of semester assignments; smaller outputs and presentations in each seminar; giving a final presentation; feedback on two other student presentations
Náhradní absolvování
Students on a study abroad program will have their ISP (Individual Study Plan) recognized, and they will be allowed to fulfill the requirements (after agreement with the instructors at the beginning of each semester) through distance learning. Possible recognition of the course (for a course at the host university) should be discussed with the lecturer before the start of the semester.
