Course objectives
The course focuses on the history and development of Russian literature for children and youth from its origins to the present day, focusing on its main representatives and key works of art. Emphasis is placed on recognizing the individual authorial style of the most prominent writers, on the key developmental and ideological changes in Russian literature for children and youth, on its practical and theoretical understanding, and on recognizing individual genres, genre variants and their specifics.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students understand the specifics of literature for children and youth; they can orient themselves in the development of Russian literature for children and youth and its periodization; they interpret and analyze works of Russian literature for children and youth and can approach them critically; they work with Russian primary literature for children and youth in preparation for their own teaching.

  • 1-2. Children's literature. Definitions, functions. Intentional, non-intentional literature. Children's folklore. History of the formation of children's literature in Russia until the 19th century.
  • 3-4. Folk tale.Children's literature in the 19th century.
  • 5-6.Children's literature in the first half of the 20th century.
  • 7-8. Children's literature in the 2nd half of the 20th century
  • 9-10. Fairy tale authorship. The main authors.
  • 11-12. Children's literature in the 21st century. Russian translations of foreign works.
