- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Health Education (programme PdF, B-VZ3S) (4)
- Course objectives
- The objective of the course is to present the basic knowledge of the structure and function of the human body, present an overview of ontogenetic stages and basic communicable diseases as well as important non-communicable diseases of mass occurrence in childhood (heart and vascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, allergy) and the first aid. The course presents synthetic information from the field of medical disciplines adapted to the needs of the students of the Faculty of Education. These findings are combined with the principles of good educational practice, with an emphasis on the teacher’s independent and responsible decision making in case a child’s health or life is at risk. An emphasis is on a holistic approach to health, timely recognition of any disorders, and preventive measures.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course the students will: Be able to explain the relationship between ontogenetic stages and age-specific diseases; Be able to assess risk factors in childhood and adolescence; Be familiar with the issue of etiology, prevention and treatment of childhood diseases; Be able to explain the symptoms and causes of conditions that threaten the health and lives of children and adults, and propose preventive measures aimed at chronic non-communicable diseases; Be able demonstrate the correct first aid procedure in a model situation; Be able to identify the most common disorders in the structure and function of regulatory systems, and understand the implications of these disorders for the functioning of an individual, especially in childhood; Be able to use the knowledge in educating children; Understand specific needs of a child’s organism;
